After the maturation, pure water, more alcohol, caramelized sugar, and liquid sugar are added to create the final liqueur. The company also states that a total of 383 quality checks are done along with all the processes. 

Jägermeister is recommended to be stored on ice and served cold, especially after opening the bottle.

In the last few years, there had been a rumor that Jägermeister contains stag’s blood. This is not true. This fake news probably started because of the label, and because the word Jägermeister has is originated from the German word “hunting master”.

Is Jägermeister flammable or combustible?

Jägermeister is not very flammable. Its alcohol content is 70 proof, not enough to be considered flammable, but it can still catch fire if tossed into flames.

Also, if the liqueur is sprayed into flames, it would be considered flammable. But this is not common behavior.

Jägermeister’s flashpoint is around 27.5ºC (81.5ºF). 

Flashpoint is the lower temperature at which a liquid starts evaporating spontaneously. It is different from the boiling point, which is the temperature something starts to evaporate greatly.

A low flashpoint means that Jägermeister would start to evaporate in mild conditions, close to room temperature. 

Because the vapors contain alcohol, they become flammable, so attention is required if a good amount of it is exposed to the air in a confined room. This could lead to an explosion.

When a flammable substance reaches a vapor state, it also reaches the most flammable state. But don’t be afraid, it’s not something so hazardous. You can keep drinking Jägermeister normally.

Although, there’s a considerable fire risk in drinking a distilled beverage while smoking, or vice-versa. If this is something you do often, consider doing it outside or at least leave windows opened for better ventilation.

Jägermeister is not expected to burst in flames, but it’s not impossible for it to happen.

What is ABV?

ABV is an abbreviation for alcohol by volume. It is a standard measure to write down how much ethanol (common alcohol) ratio is contained in a beverage.

It’s defined as the quantity (in ml) of pure ethanol in 100ml of the drink, at 20ºC (68ºF). The ABV number gives us information on how much alcohol a beverage has.

It’s important to note that ABV is not the same as volume fraction, a property commonly used in Chemistry. 

A drink that has, let’s say, 50% ABV doesn’t necessarily contain 50ml of alcohol in 100ml of the whole drink, but a little bit more. This is because the volume of a mixture changes when we mix two different things. But this difference is not big, no more than 2.5%.

Can Jägermeister catch fire easily?

No. Normally, beverages are only considered flammable if they have 50% ABV or more. If flames reach a glass of Jägermeister, it wouldn’t burn right away.

A beverage like Jägermeister would only catch fire if is tossed into big flames, or if it is heated first. But the liqueur is normally consumed cold, so this hazard gets even lower.

Also, due to its low flashpoint, flammable vapors would arise from a cup of it, and they could catch fire. But only if there’s a naked flame close by. The product can’t self-ignite.

But alcohol can evaporate much easier than water. So if a beverage below 50% ABV is mildly heathen, the alcohol would just start evaporating before burns. This doesn’t mean there’s no hazard.
